JDL Publication Honors John Paul II

From the Zenit News Agency:

Jewish Group’s Publication Honors John Paul II

Anti-Defamation League Marking 1st Anniversary of His Death

NEW YORK, MARCH 27, 2006 (Zenit.org).- The Anti-Defamation League has issued a new publication focusing on Pope John Paul II’s historic visit to Israel and the Middle East in 2000.

The publication aims to commemorate the first anniversary of the Polish Pope’s death and to honor his unique relationship to the Jewish people and Judaism, the ADL said in a statement.

“Pope John Paul II — Visit to Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Authority: A Pilgrimage of Prayer, Hope and Reconciliation,” includes selected passages from the speeches and presentations made by the Holy Father during his Mideast visit, compiled and with commentary by Rabbi Leon Klenicki, ADL’s retired director of interfaith affairs.

Abraham Foxman, ADL national director, who wrote the introduction to the publication, said: “Pope John Paul II’s outreach to the Jewish community will remain an important part of his extraordinary legacy.”

“As a youth in Poland he related to Jews who were his friends and neighbors. As Pope, through his words and actions he condemned anti-Semitism as a sin, visited the Rome synagogue, a first ever for a Pontiff, prayed at Auschwitz for the Jews who died there at the hands of the Nazis, and established relations with the Jewish State of Israel.”

Rabbi Klenicki, an expert on and participant in Catholic-Jewish relations for many decades, said, “As no other Pope in history, John Paul II will forever be recognized as the Pilgrim of Peace and the Apostle of Reconciliation.

“His prayer at Judaism’s holiest site, the Western Wall, his visit to Yad Vashem to pay homage to the Jews who died in the Shoah, his meetings with the Chief Rabbis of Israel, Israeli officials and the Israeli people, were historic moments in his pilgrimage.”

Poles have 2nd highest IQ in Europe

From UPI:

Germans, Dutch brainiest, French not

BELFAST, Ireland, March 27 (UPI) — A University of Ulster study indicates the Germans and Dutch are the smartest Europeans while France ranks near the bottom.

In France, the average intelligence score was 94, comparable to Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Serbia, while Germany and the Netherlands posted a brainy 107.

The study found the average intelligence score in the British Isles was, well, average — 100 — tying with Norway for eighth place, Sky News reported. Scots averaged a 97 while the English averaged 102, the Scotsman reported.

Professor Richard Lynn, who conducted the study, explained the lower Scots’ scores to the tendency of smarter Scots to migrate to England, New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada.

Elsewhere, Poland’s IQ averaged 106; Sweden, 104; Italy, 102; Austria and Switzerland, 101; and Spain, 98.

Lynn said people in urban areas posted higher scores than those in rural areas. Last year, Lynn said his research showed men have higher IQs than women, averaging 5 points better.

Stanislaw Lem, 1921 – 2006

From the Associated Press:

‘Solaris’ author dies in native Poland

(Warsaw, Poland-AP) March 27, 2006 – An internationally acclaimed science-fiction writer has died. A secretary says the man who wrote “Solaris,” Stanislaw Lem, died of heart failure in his native Poland. He was 84.

Lem’s most recognizable work was twice made into a movie, most recently by Steven Soderbergh in 2002. That version starred George Clooney.

Collectively, his books sold 27 million copies around the world, making him one of the most popular science-fiction authors of recent generations to write in a language other than English.

Lem’s first major novel, “Hospital of the Transfiguration,” was censored by communist authorities for eight years before its release in 1956. Other works include “The Invincible” and “His Master’s Voice.”

Holistic and complimentary healthcare platform

The PGF offers a platform of service focused on holistic and complimentary healthcare.

Complementary health modalities can contribute to a generally healthy lifestyle and may assist in the healing and recovery process. They are not intended to replace regular medical practices, rather, as the the name implies, they compliment it.

From the beginning of recorded history to the present there have been well over 2,000 health care methodologies recorded. Western medicine is probably the newest of the health care disciplines on the planet. It may also be the first and only form of healing limited solely to practices and procedures that are scientifically proven or provable.

As Western medical science has progressed, it has begun to incorporate and accept the idea that treating the whole person plays a valuable role in the prevention of and recovery from disease.

We are all aware of the role proper nutrition and exercise plays in our wellbeing. In addition to these general concepts, medical science and health insurers have begun to embrace modalities that compliment and support traditional medicine such as acupressure, acupuncture, biofeedback, chiropractic, vitamin therapy and nutritional supplements, osteopathy, shiatsu, therapeutic touch and yoga.

PGF has entered into a partnership with the Continental Spa in Krynica Poland to provide ten day and two week complimentary health services to you.

It’s your health, and there are choices… We sincerely hope that those desiring information on holistic and complimentary therapies are able to gather some of it here and that it proves to be worthwhile. After all, that is our goal!
