CHRISTMASVILLE

Come celebrate the holidays in the Village of Lancaster. Lancaster will be magically transformed into the town of Christmasville November 11, 2006 – January 7, 2007. Grab your family and friends and head at once to the glistening streets of the Village of Lancaster, stroll down Central Avenue between West Main Street and Pleasant Avenue, and enjoy the beautiful animated Christmas windows.

The windows of Central Avenue will be transformed to magical little animated worlds. Young and old alike will be awestruck as they enjoy and marvel at the glittering and dancing figures. These magical windows will feature AM&A’s original 1948 windows depicting “T’was The Night Before Christmas” and beautifully created animated windows depicting “An Old Fashion Christmas” As you stroll down the street, wonderful holiday music will fill the air. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available on select weekends. Visit the Kringle Kafe and Gift shop at 24 Central Avenue where you can enjoy meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus, purchase some of Mrs. Claus’ famous cookies and holiday sparkle ornaments, holiday merchandise, and special Lancaster memorabilia.

New York State Baroque Orchestra Performance

The New York State Baroque Orchestra will give a holiday concert on Sunday, December 17, at 3 PM at the Kosciuszko Foundation (15 East 65th Street, Fifth/Madison). A reception and carol singing follow. Tickets are $30 / $25, including the reception, and can be ordered at the Foundation Office 212-734-2130. As space is limited and this is a very popular event, early reservations are strongly recommended.

Note: The program will be broadcast on WQXR-FM 96.3 on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, at 6 PM. The broadcast is made possible by the generous support of Adam Bak, of Adamba Imports, importer of Bison Grass Vodka and other fine food products.

The concert begins with music of 16th and 17th century Poland and her European neighbors: Zielinski, Milczewski, and their Italian counterparts Merulo, Palestrina, and Gabrieli. The second half includes works of Corelli and Telemann, as well as 18th century music from Colonial America that would have been familiar to Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

Based in Ithaca, New York, the New York State Baroque Orchestra is one of the premier early-music groups in the state. Directed by musicologist Heather Lardin, the group is dedicated to historically authentic performances using period instruments.
